How to read a plan

Extension

A user or device

An internal number (like 101) for a person, desk phone or the browser phone. Your plan includes a set number of extensions.

Example: 12 staff each with their own line = 12 extensions.

Concurrent channel

One call at a time

The number of calls to or from outside your company that can happen at the same moment. Internal calls between extensions don’t use them.

Example: 5 channels = up to 5 outside calls at once; a 6th caller gets busy/voicemail.

SIP trunk

The connection itself

A SIP trunk is the internet connection that carries calls to the public phone network. A trunk has a number of channels — it’s not the same as a channel.

Example: one trunk sized for 10 channels.

DID

A phone number

A Direct Inward Dial number is a real phone number people can call. You can point each one to a person, team or menu.

Example: a main number plus a direct line for support = 2 DIDs.
